Apply May Get Legal Order to Stop Launch of Galaxy S III in the US

An Apple Inc lawyer said that the iPhone and iPad maker may seek a legal order stopping the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S III phone in the United States later this month.

At a hearing on Thursday in a San Jose, California federal court, Apple attorney Josh Krevitt said the company could file for a temporary restraining order against Samsung as early as Friday.

Samsung Electronics Co has said yesterday that it would fight Apple’s move to stop US sales of its new Galaxy phone in the latest flare-up of an intellectual property battle between the world’s top smartphone makers.

Samsung said it will vigorously oppose Apple’s request for a court to ban sales of the Galaxy S III smartphone and still plans to go ahead with the device’s scheduled release in the US on 21 June.

The South Korean company said in a statement that it will “demonstrate to the court that the Galaxy S III is innovative and distinctive.”
