Rovio’s New Cartoon Series, “Angry Birds Toons” Coming on March 16

You think this is a joke! Well, even I thought so at first but guess what – the cute, bouncy and angry little creatures are coming together as a cartoon series titled “Angry Birds Toons.”

Rovio has been throwing around the idea of having a toon series but never really gave out much detail. The first episode airs on March 16th and that will reveal all secrets.

Rovio announced “Angry Birds Toons” on its blog today describing the series as “an all-new animated series that throws the doors to Piggy Island wide open.”

We had written a piece for developers on the different ways to monetize their apps and maybe it is time to add another source to the list. Rovio is probably making the best of the opportunity. Like they say, make hay while the sun shines.

After the app hit it big, Rovio quickly moved into toys starting with plush Angry Birds. Then, just last Christmas, Rovio licensed the brand to Hasbro for a series of board games. At this point Angry Birds is a cash cow for Rovio and a cartoon series is a smart way to keep the brand alive.

Angry birds currently has around 260 million users and I bet that’s a big number to market your new cartoon series. Here is the trailer:
