Well, looks like Google has some new-found love for India. They recently opened up the Google Play Books and the Google Devices sections which included selling the Google Nexus 7 tablet in India. Now, Google has also launched Google Movies in India.
Simply stated, Google movies is nothing but an online platform to buy and rent movies. It has been existing in markets abroad but the latest addition is India. So, you can now visit the Google Play store on your PC or Android mobile and you can spot a tab for Google Movies.
The Play store had some popular films like The Amazing Spiderman and Premium Rush but the latest Oscar hits like Argo and Zero Dark Thirty were either only available for rent or not available at all.
Well, not very impressive, I’d say. First, there aren’t too many Hindi movies. Adding to that I feel the pricing is a little on the higher side. Renting starts from Rs 80 for standard definition movies up to Rs 490 for certain HD hits. While if you need to buy a movie, it starts from about Rs. 120 and goes all the way to Rs. 650 (for newer movies).
Salman Khan starer, “Ek Tha Tiger”, is available for Rs. 100 on rent while you have to shell out Rs 490 in order to buy it.
So yes, Google Play is definitely more expensive than your friendly neighbourhood DVD sales store which will also give you HD quality films for around Rs 100 if you are not too concerned about where it came from.
According to Google’s terms and conditions, customers have the ability to return or cancel their purchase anytime within seven days of purchase if they have not begun playback. However if you have ordered content that is defective, unavailable or does not perform as stated, you may request a refund at any time.

In the end, it’s not all that bad after all. Well, it gives you an option to legally access movies either on rent or purchase. But, I will agree to the fact that Google needs to work a little more towards the pricing.
