Android may be the best-selling mobile operating system in the world, but it still doesn’t inspire the same level of loyalty from its users as Apple’s iPhone does. Barron’s reports that a new survey of more than 2,000 smartphone users by Robert W. Baird analyst William Power shows that 48% of Android smartphone users plan on buying another Android device for their next smartphone while 17% say they plan to buy an iPhone and 34% say they’re undecided. The story is much different for fans of Apple’s smartphone, however, as 77% say they plan to buy an iPhone for their next smartphone, with just 5% planning to switch to Android device and 18% still undecided.
And yes, in case anyone was wondering, Power’s survey showed more awful news for RIM, as just 2% of BlackBerry users said they were planning to purchase another BlackBerry smartphone.
The survey also threw more cold water on the idea that a Facebook phone might be successful, with just 7% of respondents saying they’d be interested. The idea of an Amazon phone was much more appealing, however, with 51% of respondents saying they’d be interested in purchasing a Kindle Fire-like smartphone.
