Bangkok All Set to See Startup Action at the Seedstars Asia Summit x True Digital Park
For Asia’s passionate startups and tech crowd, Seedstars Asia Summit is bringing a unique opportunity to meet key stakeholders from all across the region. The event is also a platform to participate in discussions to change the Asian narrative positively and listen to keynotes and pitches from top entrepreneurs in Asia.
Seedstars World (SSW), one of the largest startup competitions for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, is hosting the Seedstars Asia Summit x True Digital Park in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 28th to 30th, at Ananda Campus, FYI Center, Bangkok. The forum will focus on tech and entrepreneurship in emerging markets.
Bart Bellers, Founding Partner and CEO at Xpendite Venture said, “I particularly like the fact the Seedstars is so focused on developing the startup ecosystems in emerging markets. Thanks to Seedstars, innovation is stimulated anywhere, and I am always happy to devote my time as a mentor and advance theses startups into the big league.” Other mentors confirmed are Stephanie Strunk, Michael Feldman and Unyarut (Fai) Sukontanit.
The Growth Bootcamp
The Summit will start with a day-long Seedstars Growth Bootcamp, where the 25 startups joining the Summit will learn more about growth strategy and how to master the art of pitching. The Bootcamp aims for the startups to prepare for expansion and become more investable. Among other theoretical and practical inputs, the Seedstars investment team will mentor the participants on growth models and acquisition channels.
One-On-One Mentor Meetings
Following the general training of the first day, each startup will have the opportunity to meet three mentors each for 40 minutes and will receive a hands-on training experience on improving their distribution channels and business models. Prior to the Summit, the startups will choose the most relevant mentors to their challenges, among a list that already contains Pachara (Billy) Yonjranon, Stephanie Strunk and Kazi Hassan.
The Investor Forum
The Summit week also bring together the most prominent and active investors in the region. Entrepreneurs will pitch in front of these investors and participate in private meetings that will allow them to get an in-depth feedback about their business models, as well as create potential future funding opportunities. Alice Besomi (jungle ventures), Gian Adhitya (Sequoia capital), Justin Hall (Golden Gate Ventures) and June Chen (Monk’s hill) are among the investors already confirmed.
The Ecosystem Tour
The main ecosystem builders of the continent will be invited to engage with the local ecosystem on the afternoon of November 29th. The delegates will be visiting key corporation representatives and engage in discussions with government entities to get a better understanding of the locally applied policies designed to support entrepreneurship in the country.
The day of the conference is poised to start with five think-tank style workshops running in parallel the entire morning. Attendees will be able to discuss specific topics, such as, ‘How can fintech disrupt financial inclusion in Southeast Asia?’, ‘How corporations can collaborate with startups to drive innovation?’, ‘The investment landscape in Asia’, and ‘From Smart to Sustainable Cities’.
With 35 participants organized in groups of six, several experts will lead the discussions. In addition to the 25 startups pitching on stage, the afternoon will feature keynotes from top speakers of the region and abroad, including Sidu Ponnappa (GOJek), Alisée de Tonnac, (Seedstars and Seedstars World) and Jaidee Thanasorn (True Digital Park).
The Summit will end with a panel of ‘Women in Tech’, during which Cheryl Yeoh (Entrepreneur in Residence at SVB and founder of MAGIC), Nichapat Ark (Openspace Ventures), and Seedstars Alumni Audrey Uy (CEO and Founder of Serve Happy Jobs), will share their experiences as women founders, investors, and leaders of tech initiatives in Southeast Asia. The conversation will be moderated by Christina Teo (Startup Asia Women). These sessions are part of Seedstars’ x True Digital Park global initiative to bring together the most prominent experts, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders in Asia.
Joseph De Leon of Gravitasprime said, “Seedstars brings together the most promising startups from the emerging markets and seasoned world-class investors and partners. There is perhaps no better community to find truly investable founders and collaborate with investors committed to making an impact in the developing markets.”
Seedstars Summit has been receiving support from True Digital Park and the Thai National Innovation Agency, Startup Thailand, in the last two years, enabling more startups to take part in the full program of the Summit.
Pun Arj Chairatana, Executive Director at the Thai National Innovation Agency, said that they are “very happy to partner with Seedstars for the second year in a row and provide three Thai startups the opportunity to go to the Seedstars Asia Summit as they will greatly benefit from the knowledge exchange with the local winners from the region as well as the mentorship and investment opportunities provided during the three days.”
